Inter’s rebuilding

Geoffrey KondogbiaEver since Geoffrey Kondogbia joined Inter last week, the Nerazzurri fans will have been pinching themselves at how they managed to sign such a brilliantly gifted midfielder.

Inter signed Kondogbia from Monaco in a move that was the third highest in the club’s history, behind Hernan Crespo and Christian Vieri, in a deal reported around €40 million. With a passing accuracy of 85.7 percent, the 22-year-old will be protagonist in Roberto Mancini’s squad. He is strong, long distance shooter, Under-20 World Cup winner, professional, sticks to his job and leads by example. Kondogbia is already one of the best central midfielders in Europe.
The Nerazzurri also signed defender Joao Miranda, 31, from Atletico Madrid for €15 million. The Brazilian is one of the reasons behind Atletico’s success over the past few seasons. He is careful, experienced, strong in the air and will form one of the best central-defenders pair with Nemanja Vidic.
Add Barcelona’s Martin Montoya and Granada’s Jeison Murillo to new signing, and one would find out Inter have had a busy summer strengthening their team, when it is just the begging of July, and they aren’t done yet. The club also want another midfielder and a winger, with Steven Jovetic and Juan Cuadrado among names that have been mentioned.
Inter’s massive spending so far this summer shows president Erick Thohir is aiming a top-three finish for this season’s Serie A to reach the Champions League again. It’s only natural that there are doubts over lnter’s ability to compete for the Serie A title with Juventus. But they’re going to be a far more realistic proposition to reach the Champions League spot than they have been for several years.
